LIGHTSHIFT
Lamda Light’s first – and flagship – collection, is LIGHTSHIFT. Named for the change in the energy of light upon interaction with matter, the basis for this collection is a plethora of various colored squares balancing between tonal directions and juxtapositions simultaneously yet harmoniously.
Squares that when gazed from a distance sometimes take the shape of a face, others create symmetric patterns or operate simply as color sequence charts. And there are times when they co-exist with actual miniatures of animals or people, so tiny that can go unnoticed on first view. Reinforcing the idea of these as pieces of art than functional lights, these small-scale cut-out still lifes eternally trapped in the colored squares, invite the viewer to build their own narrative, create their own storytelling inspired by Lamda Light’s playfulness and modern sensibilities.
These carrés de couleur are the design duo’s favorites, their signature eyewink in a light-creating process defined by the love for the notions of different, random, play and surprise. It is a process also fascinated by the love for geometry, weight, color and light. The love for hard, heavy materials – metal, wood, liquid glass - and intense hues that come together to produce the smoothest of atmospheres.
The end result is a surprise for the design duo itself. They are waiting to see how each light will behave as it is not possible to predict the outcome from the ideation stage. Experimental designing is what motivates them the most.
